Jennie Santiago

Directora Senior de LatinaSHARE Apoyo a Pacientes y Educación

"I came to SHARE after receiving my breast cancer diagnosis as a support group member and didn’t know what to expect. Once I was there, I noticed many of the women were from different countries, didn’t speak English, had no health insurance, and were unable to communicate with their doctors. After one or two meetings, I realized I needed to help these women. I started volunteering with outreach work then began working part-time until I got the opportunity to be a Survivor Patient Navigator. I loved the work and it is still one of my favorite parts of my job. I am so happy and proud to have grown from a support group member to where I am today and have my story as a Survivor, Patient Advocate, Support Group Facilitator,
and Survivor Patient Navigator as an influence for all the LatinaSHARE program participants and LatinaSHARE Ambassadors who have also emerged as leaders from their support groups."

Gerente de Apoyo al Cáncer de Mama

"I have always been a person who helps others. Giving back to the community began in my younger years. At 24, I collaborated with a local career resource agency teaching interviewing etiquette, writing and editing resumes for women in transitional housing. Currently, I collaborate with other small businesses and vendors to make cancer care kits for those who are recently diagnosed and going through treatment. I am a two time cancer survivor, five years breast and two years colon. My passion to inform all who will listen about breast and colon health has heightened since my diagnosis. Joining SHARE has been a great experience, and with the knowledge I am and will continue to obtain will afford me the opportunity to achieve more than I could ever imagine. My goal is to learn, educate, edify and encourage women and men to become their own advocate and always remember to self-care. I believe knowledge is power, but we have to apply it for it to be impactful. With my background and commitment to SHARE, I will fulfill my purpose to make an impact in our community."

Miranda Gonzales

Miranda Gonzales

Asistente de programación - Our MBC Life Podcast

At age 39, Miranda found a lump in her breast and was told it was nothing, which lead to a new lump 6 months later and a diagnosis of Stage 3 hormone positive IDC. What followed was a year that included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction, and radiation. Being a
young Hispanic woman, she often felt out of place among the mostly older non-Hispanic patients. Most support groups she encountered were populated with women who were mostly affluent, had retired or had adult children. A year after finishing active treatment, she began to volunteer at Houston Methodist Hospital on the infusion floor as a CanCare.org volunteer, visiting with patients while they go through chemotherapy infusions. She also began to lead the HMH local support group, in conjunction with Reconstruction of a Survivor. She is a volunteer turned employee with WigOut.org, which offers free wig kits to uninsured and underinsured women, out of Smith Clinic and LBJ Hospital, part of Harris Health Systems in Harris County. These three activities allowed her to meet women at the beginning of their diagnosis, helping her to seek out young Hispanic women that needed the support she did not have. She was chosen in 2020 to be a YSC RISE Advocate, as well as an Ambassador with For the Breast of Us, an online community dedicated to supporting women of color diagnosed with breast cancer. She now sits on their Community Partnership Board. Lastly, she’s recently accepted a position with SHARE Cancer Support, working with the “Our MBC Life” podcast, which is dedicated to amplifying the voices and sharing the realities of those living with metastatic breast cancer.
Miranda resides in Houston, Texas with her husband of 20 years and their five children.

Breast Cancer Helpline Manager

"After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, I began attending SHARE’s support group meetings. These meetings and the women I met through them were extraordinarily helpful. They eased my fears, gave me tips on how to cope, encouraged me, and understood my experiences in a way that others couldn’t. My friends and family were amazing, but it was so wonderful to sit in a room full of breast cancer warriors; it gave me hope and made me feel less alone. A few years later, one of the facilitators at SHARE decided to “retire” after eight years of service and I was asked to take her place. I was flattered, and am honored to be able to spend time with these women warriors on a regular basis, and hopefully help them through their breast cancer journeys. I have also become a peer counselor, a helpline volunteer, a facilitator of the Coping with Aromatase Inhibitors support group, and now I am thrilled to have joined the staff of SHARE as the Breast Cancer Helpline Manager. Administrative Manager

"I first came to SHARE in December 2015 to serve as the administrative manager. I'm excited to work at an organization that supports people facing cancer, which is personal for me because I lost a cousin to cancer, and my aunt is a breast cancer survivor. My goal is to assist SHARE staff and volunteers with organizational operations and to contribute in any way I can to helping SHARE succeed."

Consultora del Programa Chino

“I go where I belong and where I can make a positive impact. When Carol Evans asked me to join as the Chinese Program Consultant, without hesitation, I agreed because of our shared journey of supporting multicultural women and women for nearly two decades. As a caregiver for family and friends who are Asian, I understand cultural nuances. My professional background in diversity, equity and inclusion, and experience working with Asian American, Chinese American, immigrant and low-income communities, now enables me to work effectively to empower and transform diversity communities, and more deeply understand how to serve these constituents. As a professional coach and consultant, I am always ready to listen, empathize and help people step through life and career challenges, while preserving their personal dignity and worth. Being among the knowledgeable, caring and passionate women of SHARE is a true honor and privilege.”
